whdrunner – a small fs-uae whdload game launcher for your linux game launcher
some time back I started to write a little program, which allows you to quickly start a
zipped amiga whdload game without any trouble. I never was too happy with the results,
as e-uae fullscreen mode never was good enough and therefore I never released it.
Recently things changed surprisingly:
Frode Solheim released his oustandling uae fork fs-uae
It works so good, that I decided to slightly modify my old whdrunner and release it,
so other linux people can finally launch their whdload games
(i hope from typhon) too
requirements:
tinyxml, fs-uae, unzip
for fs-uae: an amiga kickstart, whdload games, ideally a whdload key
The very short installation and configuration is very easy to handle,
but I also provide a little howto in the included readme.
patches/suggestions welcome as always.
So happy downloading and playing!
changes:
0.52 - fixed several glitches (README, fs-uae.conf, code cleanups)
0.51 - quick hotfix
0.50 - initial release
DOWLOAD:
whdrunner-0.52.tar.gz – source tarball of the program
whdrunner_dh0.tar.gz – the required amiga system “dh0″
major rewrite
currently I’m working on a major rewrite of the typhon code.
harleaquin started to write a mighty class, which I’m about to implement.
when done we’ll have much cleaner code, more flexibility, and xml configs.
I won’t commit any changes to svn before this is completely done.
The first few commits will allow you to migrate your old config files into the new structure on the fly, but the old config handling will be removed in the near future.
no idea when we are done with this, but it’ll rock :}
until then have fun with r212
merry xmas
merry xmas to everybody!
I’ve got no release tarball for you, but recent changes in svn improved typhon a lot.
finally ps3 p3ts (no dynamic btw) also work on 64bit systems thanks to fixes by harleaquin.
ftgl no longer is a dependency. using the font classes of the mighty gource program, opengl and freetype is enough. apart from that
font handling in general is much better than before.
I also fixed lots of bugs. f.e. a huge memoryleak in the shaderhandling.
And last but not least (I’m sure I forgot a lot to mention though)
mouse picking works very good now :}
I also updated the gentoo typhon-9999.ebuild in the gamerlay overlay of course to match the new dependencies.
have fun!
sign of life
yes,still alive :}
if you didn’t follow the commits on my google code typhon project you probably thought upstream is dead.
No, it’s not!
After several fixes and improvements I now want to focus on
- easier source installation on systems with older opencv (ubuntu). Therefore a new FindOpenCV.cmake is required to check which cv version is installed.
- fix p3t theme compatibility on 64bit systems,
as it currently only seems to work on 32bit.
(typhon without using p3ts works fine on 64bit btw)
Help welcome on both.
Apart from the still existing TODO list, I also
want to add kinect controls using openni (gentoo ebuilds are the gamerlay overlay btw).
This might not happen before a new typhon releasetarball though, as I consider a featurefreeze.
Regarding kinect, I also try to add bone controls into libmmd (maybe using parts of the mighty ardesktop program), so you could also control a pmd (within typhon) with your motion.
Every help is very welcome!
Ah, almost forgot. Before the new release I’ll also make a new video showing the main features in action and also post some brandnew screenshots.
Until then I recommend trying lastest upstream
facebook and other news
so I finally opened a typhon facebook page – feel free to like it ![]()
typhon on facebook
apart from that I’m working on some major changes in typhon.
Major cleanups, dropped vineo code in favor of opencv for videoplaying, added webcam support, improved mmd model support and much more.
in case opencv will have png alpha channel support one day, I’ll also drop devIL. more to come – stay tuned.
too tired and soon too drunk to blog more today :}
cheers!
miku entered typhon
I added mikumikudance model and motion support into typhon in typhon svn using the mighty libmmd.
It is and will be optional of course.
miku support comes with model/motion selector, own settingsmenu, mousepicking and all settings go into the theme config.
If we succeed with the our libkinecto I’ll also add kinect controls for miku. I’m sure this will be a lot of fun
recent activity
within the last few days I finally found the time to commit all changes in typhon to the svn trunk.
Although my time for typhon is limited, development continues, especially as I now have a very skilled
friend helping me to bring in new features.
The mighty harleaquin from http://www.superdau.de/
joined the team, and we’re planning big things also outside of typhon.
far too early atm for a “hello world”, but f.e. we started working on a userfriendly kinect library,
which is supposed to make programming kinect apps as easy as possible.
A short (german) description and also the later home of “(lib)kinecto” can be found here:
http://www.superdau.de/?p=19
btw here the recent changes in typhon svn:
added initial endless slideshow for pictures, videos, websites
added initial rss feed (ugly atm)
added basic controlfunctions via open port
improved performance
added initial thread support
improved screensaver windowhandling
ah, and if anybody out there knows if it is possible to draw a window above a fullscreen window with X11 or even has some demo code to share, don’t hesitate to contact me
typhon themes
Of course the builtin typhon theme is nice, and there are thousands of directly importable p3t themes, but time’s up to open a new typhon themes post, which hopefully will become bigger and bigger with your contributions.
Note:
for direct import into typhon you require at least svn rv99 -
typhon-1.0-rc1 doesn’t have this feature, so you need to install them manually there (simple extract & copy – no big deal, the themes even have install instructions inside)
From time to time old themes will be re-uploaded to activate new typhon features (last update 02.01.2012). Maybe I’ll add a git theme repo one day and let you update themes on the fly
Since 02.01.2012 themes are versioned.
